Applying for an electronic healthcare professional card (eHBA) as a healthcare professional
The electronic healthcare professional card (eHBA) is a chip card used for the personal authentication of healthcare professionals. The eHBA gives you access to the telematics infrastructure (TI). The TI connects all stakeholders in the healthcare system, thereby enabling access in future, for example, to the electronic patient record (ePA).
There are different eHBAs for different professional groups. There is an eHBA for:
- Doctors
- Healthcare professionals
- Pharmacists
You can use this online service to apply for an eHBA as a person working in a healthcare profession who is not a registered medical practitioner. This includes:
- Healthcare assistants
- Nurses
- Care workers for the elderly
- Midwives
- Physiotherapists
- Paramedics
To obtain the eHBA, you must first register with the electronic health professions register (eGBR). You then apply for the eHBA with a trusted service provider (VDA). The VDAs charge an annual fee, which may vary from one VDA to another.
